Cords (of wood)

What I’m listening to: Surrender by Cheap Trick

Cords. Get it? Like cords of wood, but also like the pants-ah you get it. Did I configure a blog post backdrop around this pun or was it a serendipitous accident, the world may never know. Thankfully they don’t need to, they just need to see these pants. Hot. Pink. Corduroy. I knew the second I saw these pants they were showstoppers, but you know what pairs best with one showstopper? Another one, which is why I paired them with my white boots, which have already cemented their place not only on this blog but also in my heart as a new favorite. (PS I got a new mascara and it is going to need its own post soon.)

Peace,

A Renaissance Dissidence

What I’m Listening to: Sharing the Night Together by Dr. Hook

I spent a long time trying to think of a good title for this post, attempting to find a snappy sentence that perfectly encapsulates this look, but I couldn’t, mainly because there are a lot of moving parts in this outfit, though it doesn’t look it at first glance.

The weather is turning cold here on the East coast, and I’m ready (mostly). The floral pattern of my coat (both inside and out!)

is helping me adjust to the sudden drop in temperature. Isn’t it darling? Of course, this is a transitional year for fashion so I paired the jacket with my Korean War-era military surplus pants and a fitted ruched blouse.

The top’s deep square neck is perfect for a necklace so I chose a traditional symbol on an unconventional chain.

The Luckenbooth is a Scottish motif, (this one also incorporates the national flower, the thistle). Named for the locked booths they were sold in, they are good-luck charms. The chain is of a multi-strand black woven material.

See what I’m talking about? A lot of unique pieces in one look. I think it is one of my new favorites!Peace,

KJ

Electric Autumn

What I’m Listening to: Drinkee by Sofi Tukker

People don’t think electric blue is a fall color. I know because I googled it. Apparently “fall colors” are limited to red, orange and yellow (I guess that’s why target currently looks like someone set a maple tree on fire). Here’s the thing they seem to be missing though: I’m not trying to blend in with the landscape. It’s fashion not camo. So, continuing my lifelong trend of being contrary just for the sake of it, you know I’m wearing electric blue. A layering turtleneck + a corduroy jumper dress + platforms = the perfect blue autumn outfit.

Peace,

KJ

Lipstick + Plaid

What I’m listening to: Limetown, Episode 3: Napoleon

Well, it’s for reals the “Holiday Season” now. Which means pie, gingerbread, and those weird ribbon candies no one who doesn’t remember when California wasn’t a state likes (September 9, 1850 btw). So what’s a better coat for the season than the ever-flattering swing coat? Especially this one in such a cheery plaid! (Did that sound appropriately fashion blogger-y? I feel like yes.) The other thing I’m loving is this nude Yves Saint Laurent lipstick (this one is #22). It works great, especially in the cold, because it hydrates and protects your lips. Kind of like a grown up version of my favorite lip balm of all time Baby Lips. Alas, I must now wrap this post up, somewhere in the world someone is unwittingly purchasing ribbon candy and I must warn them before it’s too late.

Fishin’ & Fall

What I’m listening to: Somebody’s Baby by Jackson Browne

The leaves are finally turning down here, turning nature into a splendor of color that the rest of the country experienced 4 months ago. There is no better feeling than getting up in the morning and going to enjoy the outdoors. After all, “The world is big and I want to have a good look at it before it gets dark.” – John Muir.

Montgomery and Monograms

First off, let me just say that it was a great weekend for football. Georgia beat Auburn, and WKU beat Army. It was also a great weekend for weather, with the Alabama sunshine deciding to take a break for a little while. (Yes, that means winter clothes in 70 degree weather, don’t judge me.) A quick rundown of my outfit: Sweater is from Victoria’s Secret, skirt is from Adrianna Papell, jacket is Pim + Larkin, heels are (surprise!) Lands’ End, and the adorable monogrammed scarf is Marley Lilly.
