Bows, Flounces, and Ruffles! Oh My!

What I’m Listening to: Naive by The Kooks

Happy Valentine’s Day! Someone once told me you shouldn’t wear themed clothing for holidays, but as anyone who’s read my blog before knows, I clearly didn’t listen to them. It’s Valentine’s Day, so I’m wearing pink, red, bows, ruffles, sequins, and flounces, all in one fluffy frock (this dress legit has it all). Of course, I can’t totally abandon my grunge roots, so I accessorized with my Dr. Marten’s Mary Janes.

Peace (and PSAs against those candy hearts),

Bookshelves & Patriots

What I’m listening to: Where Did Our Love Go by The Supremes

Well, the game is over and wow. When I started drafting this post in the middle of the second quarter it read very differently. Now I can say it was a game to remember; especially since it set several records for not only the Pats, but also for the League. Amazing game aside, the first half had me picking out a bookshelf for my bedroom instead of having to focus on that pre-halftime score. For months I’ve been swearing I’m going to buy a bookshelf so I can move my books out of stacks on my floor (I know, I know, so 2005) but I just haven’t gotten around to it. I pretty much knew what I wanted so my requirements were pretty straightforward.

1. Large enough to hold all my books but narrow enough to fit between the side of my bed and the wall.

2. Have adjustable shelves so I can fit everything from paperbacks to vinyl records.

3. Be (reasonably) inexpensive.

With these three criteria in mind I started searching online. Wayfair (HGTVs favorite brand) had some bookshelves, but most (save one) were either too small or impractical/unattractive. Same deal on Amazon. Thwarted thus far I turned to Ikea and after navigating the world’s largest website menu I finally managed to find what I was looking for. I narrowed it down to three (plus the aforementioned Wayfair shelf).Once I got it down to the semi-finals it was time for my decision maker: which one would fulfill my number one requirement? As it turns out, the black bookcase is higher than my ceiling, so that was out. The low cream-colored one was an awkward height and the more I thought about it the more I realized I don’t actually want a blue bookshelf. As such,  I now have flat-pack furniture being delivered to my house so that I may embark on an even more harrowing adventure: putting it together. Join me next time for more sketchy sports commentary (this is 100% an empty threat) and me putting a bookshelf together backwards (definitely a real threat).

Peace,

KJ
