Electric Autumn

What I’m Listening to: Drinkee by Sofi Tukker

People don’t think electric blue is a fall color. I know because I googled it. Apparently “fall colors” are limited to red, orange and yellow (I guess that’s why target currently looks like someone set a maple tree on fire). Here’s the thing they seem to be missing though: I’m not trying to blend in with the landscape. It’s fashion not camo. So, continuing my lifelong trend of being contrary just for the sake of it, you know I’m wearing electric blue. A layering turtleneck + a corduroy jumper dress + platforms = the perfect blue autumn outfit.

Peace,

Cats on a Dress

What I’m Listening to: Wish I Knew You by The Revivalists

First off, I know. Isn’t it amazing? A timelessly romantic silhouette, ready to sink into the river à la Ophelia but with bold graphic script and photo printed kittens to make it exactly the sort of statement piece I love. This kind of dress needs an equally trendy shoe, so my Ash platforms give me that fashion feel (and the height I love, fight me I like being extra-tall).Peace,

Hey Nineteen

What I’m Listening to: Take My Love and Run by Bad Suns

And just like that I’m in my last year of being a teenager. Somehow 13 seems like it was both yesterday and a very long time ago, so I guess that evens out to, like, 6 years. Life is weird, but I don’t want this post to just be me pondering the concept of how life seems to move fast and slow at the same time, so let’s talk about my birthday. I went to New Orleans for the weekend and it was a total blast. I went to see live jazz playing on Bourbon Street, ate beignets at Café Du Monde and just generally explored the best of New Orleans. Here’s the greatest hits (yes, I did buy one of those paintings):

Pick A Peach

What I’m Listening to: First by Cold War Kids

I had a very long post (by my standards) written out for this post, it used all kinds of illiteration and adjectives, just the thing to make my old writing 200 teacher very happy. But let’s be real, you don’t want to hear me wax nostalgic about a peach farm you’re never going to visit, so I did us both a favor and scrapped it. The gist of my day was: I went to a U-pick peach farm in rural Arkansas and it was such a beautiful day outside that afterwards I dragged everyone to this little historical site just to hang out and enjoy the day a little more. It was such a fun day, the kind that makes you understand why 2/3rds of all songs on the radio are just based off the concept of summer. (Though arguably I think they should definitely sing some more about peaches, because they were amazing.)

Return of Disco

What I’m Listening to: Sultans of Swing by Dire Straits

I have a love/hate relationship with sequins.

This has mostly to do with the fact that in my experience they fall off, get bent and after approximately half of one wear the dress doesn’t look the same as when you put it on. (Which is probably my fault for being rough on clothes but whatever). However, against my prior judgements when I saw this dress I knew we were meant to be. I am so glad I did because it is so much fun to wear! It legitimately reflects light like some kind of colorful disco ball, (which I personally view as a plus to any garment). Stay groovy! (I’ll stop now)

Peace (out),

All Laced Up

What I’m Listening to: These Boots are Made for Walkin’ by Nancy Sinatra

Aaaand just like that it’s summer. Maybe not according to the stars or the calendar but if you ask me 78 degrees is at least 10 degrees over the spring standard. Anyway, it was the perfect temperature to go downtown (and wear this adorable new top from one of my favorite brands, Reformation).

(Ps. Fun fact: The bowls and the beads were both imported from Greece)

A Not-So-Mellow Yellow

What I’m Listening to: Paint it Black by The Rolling Stones

Happy Mother’s Day! Although I swear it was January five minutes ago, apparently it’s now almost summer. Not that you’ll hear me complaining; summer is one of my favorite seasons. The main reason? Summer fashion of course! Like this dress, which is one of my new favorite pieces. (Do you hear that? I made this sound like a normal fashion blog for three entire sentences (truly a new record).) And yes, the dress really is as bright as it looks, I love it. (P.S. the pockets are real) Peace + pockets,

Easter 2017

What I’m Listening to: Down by Marian Hill

Happy Easter! The mini-sister had a good time, though apparently I’m not allowed to buy candy for her Easter egg hunt unsupervised again (157 eggs is apparently overkill for one child). What’s not overkill however is the gourgeous pattern of this dress, I love when contrary seeming colors mesh so well. The brooches add just the right amount of sparkle for a holiday dress.

In the spirit of Easter, we must be reminded of the words of Mark 16:5-7:

As they entered the tomb, they saw a young man dressed in a white robe sitting on the right side, and they were alarmed. “Don’t be alarmed,” he said. “You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified. He has risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid him. But go, tell his disciples and Peter, ‘He is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him, just as he told you.’”

        – Mark 16:5-7 NIV

It can be easy not to notice all of the prophecies that Jesus foretold and then fulfilled simply within the Gospels. Of course the most important is that He would die, and then on the third day, rise again. There is no miracle greater than that. If He can keep that promise to us, He can keep all of His promises; to take care of us and guide us, just as He told us He would. Rejoice, He is risen, He is our faithful Shepard, and we are forgiven!

Peace and chocolate eggs,

A Capital Brunch

What I’m Listening To: Just Let Me Cry by Lesley Gore

I know what you’re thinking, so yes, the title is a pun. I went to the Capital Hotel here in the state capital to have brunch (I’ll give you a minute to allow my mastery of both the English language and puns sink in). It was amazing, I got the biscuits and gravy which were delicious. (And aren’t those tiny jam jars the cutest?) Anyway, it’s also abruptly turned rather summer-ish, so time to stop pretending the 50 degree lows were cold enough to warrant a wool coat I suppose. Instead, I’m breaking out the sandals, jean shorts and summer tops early this year because I enjoy tempting the weather to smite me for my hubris. (It’s supposed to be back in the 50s by Wednesday.) C’est la guerre!

Peace,
